Change of format, I’m going to be putting inspiration photos alongside the outfits to make it a bit easier for reblogging and finding, as well as adding a bit of commentary on the film.
‘Le Cercle Rouge’ is Jean-Pierre Melville’s existential crime masterpiece from 1971 and the film is full of great clothes, lots of slim European style suits in dark navys and grays with trenchcoats (influenced by Melville’s love of film noir) but the clothes I picked were the matching outfits worn by the two protagonists as they carry out the heist: Dark cords, a navy sweater, light military jacket and spring court sneakers. I love seeing in films like this the way that dominant mid-century American styles were filtered through a very French sensibility (much like the influences of the film itself)
